E-Passport: Veridos got 16 months in the second phase
Bangladesh is providing e-passport in 'turn-key' method with Veridos Company of Germany. The government has given another 16 months to the company in the second phase to implement this work. For that purpose, an agreement was signed with Veridos on Wednesday for the project titled 'Introduction of e-passport and automatic border control management'. According to the agreement, the organization has to pay 88 crore 11 lakh 99 thousand 774 taka for the necessary services for the implementation of the project.
The purchase proposal was approved in the meeting of the committee in the meeting room of the Cabinet Division in the Secretariat. This information was given by Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division Syed Mahbub Khan after the meeting.
It may be noted that, the project titled 'Bangladesh e-passport and introduction of automatic border control management' is being implemented by the Directorate of Immigration and Passports of the Department of Security Services of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The project was approved for a period of 10 years (from July 2018 to June 2028) at ECNEC meeting on 21 June 2018. The cost of the project is estimated at 4 thousand 635 crore 90 lakh 90 thousand taka. Out of this, there is foreign currency worth 3 thousand 404 crores 90 lakhs 90 thousand taka.
In order to implement the project, the main contract was signed in 2018 and subsequently the first revised contract in 2022 with Germany's Veridos GmbH on a G-to-G basis. As per the original agreement, the company has been contracted to provide operational support to the project for a period of two years.
